History of The Fizz Bowl Classic

The Fizz Bowl was established in 1966 as a result of a very boring New Year’s Day Bowl game on the television. Jim Bunnell and Fizz brunch guests took to Cal Junior High (now Middle) School and started a touch football game. After a few years the Fizz Bowl football game became the Land Park New Year’s Day event attended by large crowds and attracting local media coverage. Youngs and Olds battled on the Land Park turf, creating memories and legends at the same time. Over the years, we lost our founder, Jim Bunnell, to cancer, as well as legends Dave Wasserman and Roland Saccani. The Fizz Bowl has transformed into a fundraising golf tournament for Sutter Cancer and First Tee. We have honored our Fizz Bowl legends that have succumbed to cancer; We also honor colleagues who have survived the dreaded disease. Please join us on New Year’s Day for a morning of unparalleled Fizz Bowl fun and to raise money for our charities.
